Naming Puma Springs

When Tony Crabb and Barbara Grasseschi acquired the vineyard, they knew it needed careful planning and tending to bring it up to its full potential. It also needed a new name. Many neighboring vineyards are named for their owners, but somehow “Crabb-Grasseschi Vineyards” didn’t flow smoothly off the tongue. Although the name Grasseschi fit well into the Healdsburg Italian-American vineyard tradition, Grasseschi Vineyards didn’t represent both Tony and Barbara.

Looking elsewhere for a name, Tony and Barbara turned to another member of their family – Puma, one of the family cats. Puma Vineyards still seemed incomplete, so they added Springs to represent land they owned in the Mayacamas foothills that is peppered with natural springs. Thus Puma Springs Vineyards was christened.
